    Bio

    Fredrik O. Solem was selected by the IIAS to join the Astronaut-Scientist Candidate Class of 2019.  He reported for duty in March 2019 and qualified as Norway’s first participant to the NASA supported PoSSUM program.  He has since continued his Masters studies in Astronautical sciences with the IIAS as a student and researcher.  His experience as a SCUBA Divemaster and instructor has given him valuable insights to the challenges of spacecraft egress and rescue operations as well as to the challenges of spacesuit design. Fredrik has also contributed to the development of NASA JPLs “Cloudspotting on Mars” project as a member of the Test and evaluation team.

    “Adventure, exploration and contributing to science are the great interests of my life. SCUBA diving is the coolest thing to do on this planet, but i have higher goals.  Becoming my country’s first man in space is what really keeps me going!”
