IIAS currently supports two non-profit citizen-science initiatives, Project PoSSUM (‘Polar Suborbital Science in the Upper Mesosphere) and Project OTTER (Orbital Technologies and Tools of Extravehicular Research). PoSSUM studies and matures models of our mesosphere and technologies integral to suborbital spacecraft. OTTER studies human performance in Extravehicular Activity (EVA) operations and technologies integral to orbital spaceflight. IIAS students may concentrate studies in aeronomy, bioastronautics, science education, space flight operations, or flight test engineering.
The International Institute of Astronautical Sciences (IIAS) produces future scientists, engineers, operations professionals, and educators of the international space community by providing immersive educational experiences that produce peer-reviewed scientific publications, mature space technologies, and educate and inspire the next generation of space professionals.
Immersive Education and Citizen Science
An International, Multi-Cultural Community
IIAS embraces internationalism and believes that researching our shared environment and setting the foundations to become an interplanetary species are intrinsically international endeavors. IIAS has partnered directly with a variety of research institutions in Canada and the US while engaging organizations from emerging space nations, providing a multi-cultural and international network of expertise and collaboration.
World-Class Research and Education Partners
Since 2015, IIAS has provided instruction to students from over 46 different countries who have contributed to research performed together with the Canadian Space Agency, The National Research Council of Canada, Survival Systems USA, Florida Tech, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, The Royal Canadian Air Force, and a variety of academic universities.
From undergraduates to professional students, we have a program for you. We are dedicated to serving our students apply themselves towards a career in astronautical science. With multiple campaigns each year, we teach you not only how to be an integral part of the team but also how to lead your own investigations. Below are a sample of IIAS students at work:
